I. TAKING PART

1.Only professional or non-professional directors, producers and/or distributors can take part in the 5th CINEFANTASY.

2. By enrolling at the 5th CINEFANTASY, the participant agrees that, if selected by the jury, the film will be screened during the competitive session between the August 31th and the September 12th 2010, according to the organizers's criteria

3. Selected films may have excerpts, according to the organizers's criteria, used for publicity purposes in media, booklets, and the website www.curtafantastico.com

4. Those enrolled must provide evidence of copyrights holding. In case the enrolled is not the holder, a written authorization must be provided.

5. The organizers will not, under any circumstance, be charged for legal issues that may involve the enrolled film.

6. The directors, producers and/or distributors enrolled at the 5th CINEFANTASY are the only ones responsible for providing the necessary documentation that allows the screening of the selected film.


II. ENROLLMENT

1. Entry period to the 5th CINEFANTASY occurs between the 29th of May and the 11th of June 2010.

2. To get enrolled the film, participants should fill up the entry form available at - www.curtafantastico.com – and mail it with the following material:

2a. One DVD copy (All regions, PAL or NTSC). Disc and covers must have the title of the film, contact information and an e-mail address. Do not send master copy or irreplaceable discs, for the DVD will not be returned. Please make sure that the disc is neither damaged nor marked with fingerprints.
For foreign films, subtitles in Portuguese, English or Spanish are required.

2b. Press-release and bio-filmography of the director. Feel free to include further material such as photos, posters, trailers, etc.

2c. Directors, Producers and/or Distributors may enroll as many films as they wish, as long as each one of them is sent with each corresponding entry form and material proprietly.

3. Entries will be accepted only by mail as Special Delivery or similar, with receipt report, posted up until the 11th of June 2010, to the following address:

4. All mail costs should be covered by the sender. For international enrolls, please mark clearly in the outside of the pack: “FOR CULTURAL PURPOSES ONLY – WITHOUT COMMERCIAL VALUE”. 5th CINEFANTASY will not cover Customs charges, so please bear it in mind when choosing your carrier. The festival organizers are not responsible for discs sent to this selection, although all care will be provided to keep the copies safe.

5. There is no entry fee.

6. The 5thCINEFANTASY has the follower competitive selections:

6.a Short Film Selection: Films must have been produced during the last 36 months, with a maximum duration of 20 minutes, shot in any support (35mm, 16mm, HD, MiniDV, Beta Digital or others).

6.b Feature Selection: Movies must have been produced during the last 36 months, shot in any support (35mm, 16mm, HD, MiniDV, Beta Digital or others).

6.c Master of the Scream Contest: The short films must be very scary, no more than 5 minutes long and shot in any support (35mm, 16mm, HD, MiniDV, Beta Digital or others).

7. To qualify for 5th CINEFANTASY the film must be a relation with any fantastic theme, no matter if it is fiction, animation or documentary.
*A definition to Fantastic Cinema: Any story which contains supernatural and/or unreal elements.

8. Films screened in the previous editions of the festival cannot take part in the 5th CINEFANTASY SELECTION

9. Once enrolled, participants agree to accept the rules of the 5th CINEFANTASY.

10. The short film may be subscribed in Short Film Selection and Master of the Scream Contest since it provides the specifications of booth.


III. SELECTION

1.a The organizers will name a qualified jury that will select at least 36 short films and 10 features that will take part in the 5th CINEFANTASY .

1.b The jury will also select at maximum of 12 short films for the 2th Master of the Scream Contest.

2. Technical and artistic qualities will be taken into account by the jury when selecting films.

3. The selected ones will be informed by phone, mail or e-mail up to the 28th of June 2010, so that they will have time to provide any further document, if required.

4. For short films which reach a good grade, though not sufficient for the sake of official selection, we created what is called “The Honk Session” where the audience will choose another short film to be among the contenders.

4a. To take part in “The Honk Session” short films will be chosen according to the lowest graded films until we have reached a 60 minute screening time.

4b. “The Honk Session” will take place in 03th of July 2010, in a venue determined by the organizers. Those selected for this special session will be contacted up to 7 days before the screening.

5. The following material should be sent ASAP:

5a. Press release, posters, photos, etc, so that we can publicize the film. The Festival organizers have the rights to keep this material. The acceptance of participation implies permission to the use of such material for publicity, and the director's/producer's name (s) for the same purpose without any compensation for that.

5b. 35mm films, if selected, must have a film print sent to the festival by its director, producer and/or distributor, so that it can be screened.

5c. All screening copies must be with the organizers until the 20th of August 2010. All copies will be checked before and after the screening. Please mark the label clearly with: title, screening support, aspect ratio, sound format and contact details. For foreign parcels, packs must be marked: “FOR TEMPORARY CULTURAL PURPOSES ONLY – WITHOUT COMMERCIAL VALUE”. The Festival will not cover Customs fees.

5d. Each reel of the 35mm copy must carry a label with: original title and international title, duration and reel number.

5e. The 5th CINEFANTASY will not cover the 35mm copies return fees. Copies will be returned within 15 days after the end of the festival.

5f. For foreign language films, the director, producer and/distributor has to send the dialogue list with timecode in English, Spanish or Portuguese.

6. The organizers will decide dates and times for screenings for the selected films. Films will be screened at Centro Cultural São Paulo and other places in negotiation. No select film will be screened more than 3 times during the competitive session.

7. The jury's decisions are indisputable.

8. Selected films may take part of retrospectives of the CINEFANTASY FILM FEST.


IV. AWARDS

1. A qualified jury for the 5th CINEFANTASY will choose winners in the following categories:

1.c Master of the Scream Contest
- The 2th Master of the Scream Contest will be happen in a single screening session with a special host who will present all the selected short films before the screening.
- There will be only one winner of the 2th Master of the Scream Contest.
- The winner will be chosen by the audience who will vote on the scariest short film.
- The voting will happen at the end of the screening session.
- In case the winner is there, he will receive the statuette of the 2th Master of the Scream Contest right there.

2. The jury will choose the winners according to the following criteria: conception, execution, technical and artistic excellence, originality, innovation. The jury may include special mentions.

3. Decisions will be made according to the majority of votes.

4. Only Brazilians can be awarded with the Students Incentive Award. The students must be attending classes on Cinema, Radio and TV, Audiovisual and Multi Media.

5. The Beginners Incentive Award will be given to non-professional Brazilian productions, produced by individuals, not production companies.

6. The audience will choose the best short film and feature during the competitive session. Coupons will be given during the session so that they can vote. Votes will be calculated according to the weighted average. The film with the higher percentage of votes will be the winner.

7. In case of tie in any category, the organizers will choose the winner.

8. Winners will be announced in the website and contacted via e-mail or telephone.

9. The Award Ceremony will happen on the 11th of September 2010 in São Paulo in a venue still to be chosen. The winners will be given trophy and certification.


V. FINAL DISPOSITIONS

1. 5th CINEFANTASY is not responsible for lodging and transporting selected participants who wish to attend the festival.

2. The organizers are not responsible for damages or losses of any nature that individuals directly or indirectly connected to the festival my suffer during the 5th CINEFANTASY

3. The organizers have the rights to change dates, bases and conditions of the 5th CINEFANTASY as long as a justification is provided.

4. The organizers have the rights to act upon and doubt or dispute from the beginning of the 5th CINEFANTASY until its end.

5. The organizers' decisions are indisputable.
